1. Overview
Francis Law Center (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website located at https://www.francislawcenter.com (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through the Site, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices available to you.
We are an immigration law firm. We understand that the information people share with us is often sensitive, and we treat it accordingly.
2. Important Notice About Legal Advice
Nothing on this Site is legal advice, and using this Site does not create an attorney-client relationship.
Only a licensed attorney at Francis Law Center can provide legal advice, following formal engagement. Until we have run a conflicts check and signed a written engagement agreement, we are not your attorneys and you are not our client.
Please do not submit confidential or sensitive details through our website forms or chat. Information you send before an attorney-client relationship exists may not be protected by attorney-client privilege. Share only what is necessary to arrange an initial conversation. We will tell you when it is appropriate to share more.
3. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly. Your name, email address, phone number, and any details you choose to include when you complete a form, request a consultation, or use the chat assistant on our Site.
Information collected automatically. Your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, and the dates and times of your visits. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies.
Chat interactions. Messages you exchange with the assistant on our Site, together with the date and time of the conversation.
We do not intentionally collect Social Security numbers, alien registration numbers, passport numbers, financial account details, or immigration case specifics through the Site. Please do not enter them into any form or chat window.
4. About Our Chat Assistant
The chat feature on our Site is an automated AI assistant, not an attorney and not a member of our staff. It provides general information and helps route inquiries. It cannot assess your case, predict an outcome, or give legal advice.
Conversations are recorded and may be reviewed by our staff so we can follow up with you and improve the service.
5. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Respond to your inquiries and schedule consultations
- Run conflicts checks before any engagement
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Site and the chat assistant
- Send you information you have requested
- Comply with our legal, regulatory, and professional obligations
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
6. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We disclose personal information only to:
- Service providers who host our Site, provide our chat and form tools, and deliver email on our behalf, under contracts that limit their use of the information to providing those services
- Professional advisors, including our own counsel, accountants, and insurers, where reasonably necessary
- Authorities, where required by law, subpoena, court order, or applicable rules of professional conduct
7. How Long We Keep Information
Chat transcripts and website form submissions are retained for 24 months from the date of the interaction. Contact and inquiry records are retained for 36 months.
Where you become a client, information relating to your matter is retained under our file-retention obligations as an Illinois law firm rather than under this policy.
8. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Know what personal information we have collected about you and how we use it
- Request a copy of that information
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your information
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information
- Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights
8.1 How to Exercise Your Rights
Contact us using any method in Section 11.
Requests to know, delete, or correct. We will respond within 45 calendar days of receipt. If we need more time, we may take up to an additional 45 days and will notify you of the extension and the reason for it. We may need to verify your identity before acting on these requests.
Requests to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We act on these as soon as feasibly possible and no later than 15 business days from the date we receive the request. No identity verification is required to opt out, and no account is needed.
Your opt-out remains in effect until you tell us otherwise. We will not ask you to consent to the sale or sharing of your personal information for at least 12 months after you opt out.
8.2 Opt-Out Preference Signals
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for that browser or device, and we honor it automatically. You do not need to do anything further.
8.3 Authorized Agents
You may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf. We may ask the agent for proof of authorization and may ask you to verify your own identity directly.
9. Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Site, remember your preferences, and understand how the Site is used. You can manage non-essential cookies through the privacy controls on our Site, and you can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may prevent parts of the Site from working.
10. Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
