While you have an idea of your options for employment-based immigrant visas in Illinois, you must have the right documents to receive a visa. What paperwork must you gather?
The U.S. Department of State breaks down specific documentation to include with your visa application. Double-check that you have everything you need to save time and improve your chances of receiving application approval.
Passport
Your current passport must remain valid for at least six months beyond the day you arrive in the U.S. Your country’s U.S. Consulate or Embassy may require a longer validity period.
Civil documents
Examples of original civil documents you may need to submit for your employment-based visa include marriage and birth certificates. You may have to translate some documents, so look for that requirement on the application. Also, you may need to submit photocopies of some original civil documents. If you must submit original documents, you get them back.
Form DS-260
Your visa application must include an Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application.
Two 2×2 photographs
Before submitting two photographs, review the most recent photo requirements on your application.
Proof of monetary support
During your visa interview with a consular officer, expect to prove why she or he does not have to worry about you needing public benefits during your time in the U.S., known as a “public charge.” Usually, aliens who may become public charges cannot receive admission to the U.S., but exceptions exist.
Medical exam form
As part of the application process, you must undergo a medical examination and receive vaccinations. Ensure you include the forms you receive after the exam as part of your visa application.
Do your part to speed up the visa application process by including all the required documents. Hopefully, everything works out in your favor.
